In this course, students will be introduced to the history, theory and practice of documentary film. In the first half of the course, students will examine texts that radically reframe the documentary, interrogating assumptions of reality, objectivity, truth, ethics and power. In the latter half of the semester, students will produce a short work of their own design. The aim is to encourage students to become more active, critical viewers and producers of documentary media.

Humanities 101 will facilitate your entry into the intellectual life of the college by helping you to become a more independent critical reader and viewer. Structured as a seminar, the course emphasizes critical analysis and collaboration and aims to teach you specific skills and habits of mind that will contribute to your academic success at Wofford.
