This course is an examination of the life and thought of ancient Israel as seen through a literary, historical, and theological analysis of the Hebrew Bible. We will examine comparative ancient Near Eastern texts and cultures, as well as the archaeology of ancient Israel in conjunction with the texts of the Hebrew Bible. This will allow us to place the texts in their larger historical, cultural, and socio-political setting(s).
