This course is an exploration of the theory and methodology of art history, intended to develop critical thinking skills, to further the student’s ability to write persuasively about art, to develop research and bibliographic skills, and to cultivate an understanding of some of the analytical approaches employed by art historians, including biography, iconology, structuralism, feminist criticism, and decolonizing strategies. Successful prior completion of at least one art history course is required of all students, or permission of the instructor.
