It’s impossible to say all there is to say about
theatre history, literature, and practice over the course of one lifetime, let
alone in one semester! This class is designed to give you a taste of what this
rich, dynamic, and multidimensional art form is all about. We’ll be talking
about what theatre practitioners do, looking at the processes of acting,
directing, playwriting, and design from behind the scenes. We’ll be engaging in creative explorations of all of these processes. And
we’ll be reading, watching, discussing, and writing about a number of plays
that represent only a very tiny cross-section of what’s out there. It’s my hope
that you’ll continue your study of theatre long after this semester ends, whether
as artists yourselves, or as informed and engaged audience members – there’s
lots left to discover!
