This course focuses on media and concepts explored in historical and contemporary drawing. We will expand our understanding of drawing by utilizing a range of techniques and materials on paper. In this course, an effective observational drawing is deliberately rendered and suggests form and light through careful comparison and visual documentation. With the use of relativity points and guidelines we will learn how translate what is seen in 3-dimensions to a 2-dimensional format.
We will also focus on the design principles: line, shape, and value; in addition to drawing fundamentals: proportion, composition, and layout. Hand-eye coordination will be developed through gestural drawing, during which the hand duplicates the motion of the eye making a quick movement that defines general characteristics of a subject or object. Lastly, we will explore self-portraiture and experimental drawing.
