An exploration of the history of Art History and current debates within the field designed to provide students with a hands-on understanding of key methodologies that have shaped the discipline and continue to push it in new directions. We will develop our skills of close looking, critical thinking, analytical writing, and academic research necessary for a range of careers related to Art History, including art criticism, education, design, marketing, conservation, and curatorial work. Successful prior completion of at least one Art History course is required of all students, or permission of the instructor. The test of Art Historical Proficiency, a requirement for the Art History major, will be administered as part of the course.
