Course Description:  This course will explore society and social behaviors while analyzing society’s influence on the thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and emotions of individuals. Questions such as “Who am I?”, “What do I want our of life?”, “How can my life help or inspire others?” will be examined in the context of sociological research. The course will shed light on the why and how we think and interact with society and add to the construction of our own self-identity.

Learning goals for this course:

1.     To gain an understanding of the impacts of our social environments as well as others.

2.    To encourage students to think systematically about personal life experiences and how they relate to society at large.

3.    To deepen our lens of a multicultural society and expand global awareness.

4.    To explore the intersections of race, socioeconomic status, gender, and other identities as it relates to societal governance and interaction.

5.    To foster critical thinking and writing skills.
