Course Description
In this course, students will be introduced to the diverse world of ceramics and explore its potential as a fine art medium. The course will cover forming techniques, surface development, glazing applications, and the work of ceramic artists from around the globe. Students will develop technical skills and conceptual understanding in a creative environment through functional and sculptural approaches. The artwork will reflect the maker's style and vision, following the instructor's demonstrations and project criteria. Please note that while this course is considered introductory, it is a rigorous studio art class that requires significant time and effort.

After this course, students should be able to demonstrate the following:
★ Understand basic ceramic forming techniques.
★ Understand contemporary ceramic art.
★ Apply craftsmanship and design process with the medium of clay.
★ Use creative capacities in planning, designing, and constructing.

➢ The ability to communicate through the clay surface in an expressive, intentional, and meaningful way using form, slips, underglazes, and glazes.

➢ The ability to practice problem-solving and decision-making through creative stimulation.
➢ The ability to use an appropriate ceramic vocabulary.
➢ The use of sketching and planning techniques to generate ideas and organize the creative process, from the initial concept to the final project presentation.
