This is an anthropology course grounded in a community-based learning methodology.  Our classroom extends beyond Daniel 101, moving us across Wofford’s front gate to Spartanburg’s Northside neighborhood.  We will learn about, from, and with the Northside through course readings, films, discussions, and service-learning at a series of community-based organizations.  We will explore what sustainability means and looks like in Spartanburg’s Northside community and what research methods we can employ to learn about the ways community, change, equity, and sustainability are envisioned by members of the neighborhood as well as by local organizations.  Our work this semester will position us to identify an organization we will partner with during the spring semester (ANTH 306) to carry out a community-based learning project.
